Breeding for the climate a crop actually meets

Indian agriculture is not one climate. Cotton under irrigation, bajra on residual moisture, paddy across kharif and rabi — each asks a different question of a breeding programme.

Kirtiman describes its products as regionally specific and fit to climate challenges. That is a useful frame: the right hybrid is the one that holds under the farmer’s actual constraints, not an average of a brochure.

Resilience in this sense is agronomic: duration, lodging, disease reaction, and the ability to finish a crop when the season is short. Those are the traits a research farm is built to see.
